Many manufacturers and distributors make use of agents, with their own representatives, to fulfill some or all the above functions.

It is equally important to the manufacturer and the agents to know what is happening with its merchandise in the stores.  The agents are dependant on their representatives to perform in line with their principals’ instructions. The agents, in turn, have to report to their principals on their actions and performance, and they have to prove to their principals that they have performed in terms of their mandate.

This causes much friction and disagreement between principals and agents.
